UKM1.6 - 1 Techy Meet

Hi Guys! I thought it'd help give people a flavour of whats going to be needed to make UKM 1.6 a success. So, with a bit of cutting, pasting and bodging, heres a page showing all the cabs and what they need doing to make them run. Graphics intensive, but pretty nevertheless :)

So Far, the attendees are:

Arrangements:-

You all know the dates I've been muttering, Jan 22nd and 23rd. I recommend that people try and travel down Friday night and we'll all meet up in the Fox and Hounds pub in Funtington. That way, we all park, we all have drinks and don't have to wait for latecomers (Chad and Chris have a 3-4 hour journey :/). The foods okay here - they do bar food and posh food too but a tad expense at £5ish for bar food and anything from £8-£15 for posh grub. I suggest people eat before turning up.

As far as the weekend goes, I hope you guys can stay for the majority of it, I was thinking Saturday we can then crack on with the cabs, and wrap up lunchtime - 2PM on the Sunday - but come for as much or little as you can stomach :) Please bring a sleeping bag if you can as this'll help out immensely. I'll be stocking up on beers, cokes, crisps, snacks, etc. etc. And I'll shout us all Pizza or Curry or Chinese or whatever on Saturday evening - I'll get loads of sandwich fillings and bread for lunches I guess - maybe a pot noodle or two :)

I'd appreciate if you also bring some tools, you faves, some odds and sods like connectors, wires, a swicther or two, bits we might need - anything we use I'll make a trade/pay for.

Okay, so first things first details of the techy meet. Heres a streetmap from the web first....  http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?grid2map?X=480000&Y=108300&arrow=Y

Directions :

(Coming from North Or West)

From the North you guys are best to use the A34 down past Newbury until you reach Southampton and the M27 - those from the West will have followed the southern coastal road and be on it already :)

Follow the M27 all the way, following signs for Portsmouth. As you come down a hill after Fareham junctions you'll see Pompey below, you'll need to be in either of the right to hand lanes soon as the road splits in two so follow the signs for Chichester now and the M27 becomes the A27. Follow this for four odd miles and signs for Chichester, past the A3 junction (goes north to London) where the four lanes become two, past Havant junction a mile further, then over the flyer till you reach the UN-NUMBERED junction labeled Emsworth A259.

The slip road comes down to a mini roundabout, turn right here and go under the dual carriageway, where theres another mini roundabout - straight across it. Follow this road for about a mile and a half and you'll come into Emsworth and a fairly big roundabout.

Go straight across this roundabout and keep following the A259 straight, through Southbourne (another mini roundabout) and on towards Nutbourne. This is about 3 miles I figure. At this point you'll see an Elf garage on the right, followed 300 yards or so after by a pub on the right called the Barleycorn. Turn left here - think this road is called Broad Road (could be wrong here).

This road will go over a railway crossing, through a village called Hambrook. Follow this road for its entirity (3-4 miles?) until it comes to a T-junction. Dead ahead will be a hut and a sign on the fence saying DERA.

Turn right here and you're now like 1/2 a mile from Funtington. Follow the road into Funtington, round the bend and although I guess it'll be dark theres another pub here called the Fox and Hounds on the left. OPPOSITE this, next to a phone box is the pubs overflow car park. I suggest we leave cars here along the back fence - trying to get the missus to agree this.

Directions : (Coming from London/A3 way)

OK, I think only Skitz and Chris Hardy are coming from this way and they've been before so I'll keep it brief. Follow the A3 past Petersfield, over the enormous hill and take the junction labeled Emsworth (B2149 I think) Follow this, over two mini roundabout for 3-4 miles and you'll reach a point where theres a Bupa hospital behind trees on the right and signposts for Havant to the right and Chichester to the left - Take this (if you overshoot you'll reach Emsworth and you may as well follow the road straight to the medium sized roundabout, turn left and follow the previous instructions for the North/West) Presuming you didn't miss this turning, follow it straight for 4-5 miles and you'll reach Funtington, so see above for parking.

The Machines

Oh dear, what a sickly bunch - quite a few of you have opted for certain machines already, so I've mentioned this inside the description so you can bring apt tools for the job ;P Naturally no-ones got to do this, its just a reasonable breakdown of work :)

OK, these machines work fine, although they all have US power inputs - 120V. I think Chads gonna do the Roby conversion (rewire a molex), Skitz is gonna look at the Wor. I was thinking of doing the R-Type and the Qix should be a case of rewiring a molex key

As far as the Qix goes its got a nasty screen wobble, and I'm hoping to convince Chris Hardy to do a Cap kit on it and the R-type (he's keen you see ;p)

The Sinistars very flakey - Bazfish is bringing my spare set of PCBs just in case its a board fault, but we think its the linear. Both cabs have linear Power supplies and I think Chad's going to Switch them and case out the sini (also have a look at my sick Star Gate PCB set inside the Defender - CMOS problem?)

The Sini could do with a cap kit (Chris? ;p) But I have a brand new 240 WG that'd look nice in the Joust to get rid of that burn. Perhaps the roby could be changed too...

Scott's bringing a colour Taito 20" Monitor with him that we've struck a a deal on so we've got that to drop in. the wiring is complete inside and I have 2-3 boardsets that are untested. God willing one of these will work, although I guess someone needs to either tell me in advance how to run the PCBs from a colour monitor - they are the L shaped affairs BTW. It'd be nice to get this one going for sure.

Ok, Baz is bringing a working PCB set and Skitz has been allocated to Gorf restoration duties :)

I have two Midway power boards too but have no clue whether they work, or come from this cab for that matter.

I must also crackit open and check for video and sound pcb although I have a spare rgb and Wor sound board which Skitz is well prepared for :)

Ok, I think I have a working PCB still - all My Audio Reg 2's seem to have various faults so I'd love to get these fixed and then strap the -sense to GND and +sense to +5 which XY-Man tells me saves loads of hassles.

The XY monitor is also down (last time we looked the right side of the screen had collapsed) and I think Chris Hardy again wants to fiddle with this, but I know Bazfish has some experience too :)

Ok, Bazfish and Scott are itching to have a crack at this baby. I have two PCBs sets here, and a power board with two massive caps I'll get in before hand as Ade thinks these are half the problem.

The cab is in bits effectively and needs reassembling with the blacklights etc that baz has got.

The Galaxian currently is on AC power. When I turn it on after 5 seconds it blows a fuse - possibly a short on my PCB has been suggested.

I'm not adverse to this being Switch converted along with the pcb which D-Zine has opted to play with. I have no idea if the monitors running on this baby BTW.

I've put the Berzerk and Killer instinct here too - last summer Chris, Skitz and I got this working but the last time I fired it up the screen went down (too cold?) So it also falls under the dead monitor category (I have a Killer Instinct with dead

And if theres time we have the Star Wars beasties ;)

The upright hasnt a monitor (yet) but I'm working on that and we have a PCB set thats working (sos the cockpit - I'll test this when I get the heaters going).

I also have a Miissle Command caberet that needs going too really.

I think thats it for now.... Any more..
